New York’s Couture Fashion Week will prove to be a sensational event showcasing cultural entertainment and fashion from India.
The show will be held at 4pm on February 15th in the Grand Ballroom of the Landmark New Yorker Hotel in the city’s Fashion District and will host a varied and exciting collection of fashion designers all rapidly pushing India onto the global fashion map. These designers are Amritraj Bora, Daniel Syiem and Ikali Sukhalu.
Amritraj Bora is from New Delhi and his style is innovative in the way that it focuses on looking into the future but also entwines this idea with a love of nostalgia and a fascination with the dynamic qualities of the decadent woman. In his fashion career Amritraj Bora has worked for Chloe, Roberto Cavalli, Prada, Allsaint and other European high fashion brands. Bora’s creations are very popular amongst Bollywood celebrities. His clients include Esha Gupta, Mugdha Godse, Gauhar Khan, Malaika Arora Khan, Sonal Chauhan.
Daniel Syiem is internationally recognized as promoting ethnic and organic materials exclusively found in the Northeast region of India. His designs have clean silhouettes and interesting drapes in his designs. Syiem’s designs have featured in top magazines including Vogue, Grazia, Harper’s Bazaar, Eclectic North-East and Elle. His autumn/ winter collection was incredibly popular at 2013’s Lakme Fashion Week.
Ikali Sukhalu’s designs are a synthesis of Naga ethnic wear and modern influences. Her latest collection brings hand woven fabrics and tribal motifs to modern silhouettes to bring the ancient opulence of the chiefs to the contemporary dress sense. This collection was inspired by the weaving traditions of the legendary silks of Assam and tribes of Nagaland.
