Fashion designer Asa Kazingmei from Nagaland has become increasingly popular in the fashion world. His designs are a fusion of ethnic Naga styles and modern trends. He is also influenced by the traditions and customs of his locals to create his collections.
His collection called 'Changvei' which he showcased at Lakme Fashion Week Autumn/ Winter 2014 was well received. Changvei in english translates protector and defender and is believed to be influenced by the zest of the Naga warriors.
Born and bred in Lunghar village in the Ukhrual district in Manipur, Asa Kazingmei claims that since he was very young he had a passion for fashion and he finally moved to Mumbai in 2008 so fulfil his dream.
He mentions that his career actually started because father was tailor and that always inspired him. He adds that he tried modifying and reworking his outfits since his childhold and also used to make outfits for his family and friends.
After coming to Mumbai and working with many designers, he finally launched his own fashion label named 'Asa Kazingmei Haute Couture' in 2012.
The Northeast is becoming another popular region where people are taking an interest in fashion and design and cultivating this interest as a career. Young designers like Asa Kazingmei influence the youth of today to pursue their passion.
