Founder of fashion brand Raw Mango, Sanjay Garg who is launching his new collection soon says that currently there are a lot of young girls wearing sarees and these Indian outfits are not considered to be just traditional Indian wear any more. Many Bollywood celebrities like Neha Dhupia, Kareena Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee are often spotted in sarees.
Last week there was an exhibition held at Good Earth that showcased almost 150 handcrafted sarees at prices ranging from INR 4,000 (approximately 40 pounds) to INR 80,000 (approximately 8,000 pounds). The entire collection on display at this exhibition had been developed from the kadwa brocade design technique from Varanasi. Kadwa is basically the ornamentation and decoration of motifs using excess wefts. These patters are usually etched in gold on a silk background and look exquisite.
Jewellery designer Amrapali that has recently caught the eye of Hollywood celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez as well as a number of Bollywood celebrities hosted a showcase for their new collection as well at Good Earth last week. Amrapali is a popular luxury Indian jewellery label that was founded in 1978. Every piece is exquisitely created by skilled craftsmen, designers and goldsmiths from Jaipur in Rajasthan. The showcase featured Navratna and uncut diamond jewellery (jadau) ranging from earrings and necklaces. The best part about this showcase is that each piece is unique and some of these pieces also feature tanzite, rubies and semi precious stones.
