Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London includes a Sari as part of their permanent collection, first featured in New Delhi-based designer duo David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore's Autumn Winter 2010/11 collection. A belted charcoal silk sari (with a silver border and a cycle rickshaw motif) is going on display alongside creations by Coco Chanel and Christian Dior for company in the V&A's permanent collection. This Sari is very special because it's not traditional, it has a new silhouette, an architectural drape teamed with a skinny belt, high mojri shoes and floral print tunic gives the age-old costume a modern avatar. To expose this sari in the museum will probably mark the moment when the India broke free of tradition with regards to its national dress. Abraham and Thakore with their long time proponents of traditional and elegant saris deserve to have their name on this label. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Shop Indian Designers' Collection at Strand of Silk
